Things I’m Into – September 2018

2018.10.08

I love hearing what people are into.

It gives me good ideas of things to try, and shows me things I have been missing out on! That being said, I decided to share some of my favourite things this month. I’ve done a post like this in the past, and I haven’t been good at keeping up with it, but I have lots of things that I’m into this month that I want to share with you.

I have a lot of links in here, because I love getting more information, but if the links stress you out, don’t feel obligated to click on them (most of them are links to previous posts, just to give you some more free ideas).

Ready?

1.  My menstrual cup: Sounds weird, but this is something that has truly been one of my favourite things not just this month, but this year. Read my post about the menstrual cups to hear more about why I love it so much!

2. Podcasts: I have always liked podcasts (since they are great free entertainment), but for the last few months I have been really into them. Here are some of my favourites:

  • By The Book (Panoply): The two hosts live by a self-help book for 2 weeks and share about if they changed their life. It’s funny, interesting, and gives you the opportunity to experience self-help books without having to buy them. Win-win!
  • Happier (Panoply): Gretchen Rubin and her sister talk about life and happiness hacks and ideas. It’s fun to listen to sisters work together, and they give really good practical tips each week.
  • Every Little Thing (Gimlet Media): A fun podcast that explores listener questions like “Where did the Cha-Cha slide come from?” or “What were pirates really like?” The host is great, and I learn all kinds of interesting facts.
  • StartUp (Gimlet Media): Interesting stories about how to start a business. I listened to the first two seasons in a few days – it was fascinating and really good podcasting!
  • Side Hustle School: A 10-12 minute daily podcast that gives stories about people who are killing it in their side hustle! I love being inspired by their stories.

3. Travel: I have travelled so much this year (mostly to visit family), and I still love it! Here are some blogs I have written about some travel tips and how to save money when you travel.

4. Crocheting: I’m always into crocheting, but lately I have been making a lot of baby blankets for my friends having babies and potholders for wedding gifts. You can read more about my ideas for homemade gifts to spark your own creativity for making your own gifts!

5. Netflix: It may sound super lame, but I really appreciate the thriftiness of Nextflix. We don’t have cable, we hardly buy and never rent new movies, so this is where most of our TV / movie entertainment comes from. At $10.99/month, it’s a great deal for us since we spend most evenings at home (not to mention you can share the subscription with at least 3 people, making it even more cost-efficient!).

Since I have been on a break from school, it’s allowed me to spend a bit more time watching some Netflix and relaxing. I also love being able to do something while I crochet. 🙂

Here are some of my recent favourite shows (not all are from this month – I promise I don’t watch that much Netflix!):

  • When Calls the Heart – a great show about teaching and romance in the early 1900’s in a small town (not to mention it’s based on the book my mom was reading when she was pregnant with me and that’s where my name – Elisabeth – comes from!)
  • A Little Help with Carol Burnett – she asks kids for advice for grown-up problems, and the answers are hilarious
  • Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee – a great 15-20 minute show with some interesting and funny people
  • Sugar Rush – who doesn’t love a show about making desserts?
  • Cooked – an awesome 4-part documentary on cooking (super interesting and informative)
  • Once Upon a Time – the latest series I’m watching – I know I missed all the hype for this since it’s been out for 7 years, but I’m loving it!
  • The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes – Fred and I love this show right now! The hosts go and spend time in some of the most interesting homes in the world. It’s fantastic.

6. Strawberry water: I don’t always love drinking water, but I have found something so amazing and refreshing! We rarely keep ice in the freezer, but sometimes I want my water to be cold. So I have started putting a few frozen strawberries in my water and it has been delicious!

Not only does it keep my water a bit colder, but it gets me a little extra fruit in my day. I also add a drop or two of lime essential oil*  and it is fantastic! (Side note: I sell doTERRA essential oils. If you’re interested in ordering some amazingly high quality oils that you can ingest through my little business, you can use this link or you can get in touch with me to hook you up!)

Note: If you have a lot of fruit left over from the summer, I suggest you freeze it (like strawberries for water or smoothies later) or make jam!

So there you have it! These have been a few of my favourite things this summer. Hopefully one of them sparks something fun that you might want to try!

Note: None of the things mentioned in this blog post are endorsed by any of the companies, podcasts, or TV shows mentioned. I’m just sharing some of my favourite things, and the links are only there for convenience!

The only affiliate link in this blog is the one to my doTERRA page, where I do get a small commission, but only if you order something. No pressure, though! 🙂 You’re welcome to just browse.

*Nitty-gritty note: Not all essential oils are safe for ingesting! Please read the label before consuming essential oils. This post is not FDA-approved.
